"I love you more than Kanye loves Kanye"

If you know anything about Kanye West, you know his ego, his explicit songs, and his ability to influence. The "I love you more than Kanye loves Kanye" line is one that we, the younger generations, use as a joke because of how accurately it can describe the amount of love we have for a friend by using his large ego as the comparison.

In this post I want to discuss something me and my sister talked about the other day, but first- here's a recap.

If you haven't heard already, he just released an album called "Jesus is King."

*insert record player screeching noise here*

Say whaaaat?! Yes folks! He did! And guess what? It's really good! His lyrics match the album title. I honestly expected to click on any song in the album and hear his usual type of songs about sex, money, power, and maybe with a sprinkle of "God is good."

The more I dove into his songs and interviews with him, and other article reports about his life lately, the more I feel like this 'Jesus is King' thing is, well, real to him. I pray this is not a stunt, and I pray that the Holy Spirit is really in his heart. So far he's saying the 'right' things, and seems to also be living out what he is claiming. (We all know the celebrities, and regular people, whose lives reflect everything but Christ yet they say things like, "God first, God is good, Thank God for ____." That type of faith is easily discredited based on their life's fruits.) As the Bible teaches, and as Kanye himself said, "once you have Jesus, you're a different person" (YES!). We all fall short of perfection, that's why the cross is so important to our faith. But when you say you believe in God but your life has no "proof" then it can be easy for others to dismiss your claim of faith to be invalid/fake. SO, that being said, we'll see as time goes on whether or not Kanye is using this to engage a part of the industry that he hasn't touched before, or if he truly has been saved by grace and is transforming his life to live for Christ.

Fortunately, by all things seen so far, it seems that Kanye's faith is genuine and that he truly has put his faith in Christ. Praise the Lord!!!

So onto the main part of this post as mentioned before...

My sister Sabrina and I were talking about how AMAZING this is. We are hoping and praying that this will be able to reach people with the Gospel that otherwise wouldn't ever hear it. We have faith that God will use this conversion to His glory.

In the midst of talking about how incredible this opportunity is, she said,

"It bothers me though, that people are like, getting angry about it. I've read things that people have written about it and they are saying things like, 'this is why people hate Christians, like Kayne? Of all people? Why would God choose Kanye!?' As if people like him can't come to faith?"

TO ALL PEOPLE, Christians or nonbelievers, who are thinking, "really? Kanye? Yeah right, why would God ever use him" let me remind you of 1 Corinthians 1: 27, which says, "But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen." Let me also remind you of the apostle Paul, of David, of Moses, and any other faithful servant of Christ that God chose when all human reasoning would never have.

Kanye is rich, influential, resourceful, loved, despised, weak (as he stated while talking about addictions), and though he is not "lowly" in this world's view, he was spiritually bankrupt. God tells us He will use these people to share His love and mercy. As Sabrina and I were discussing, the question shouldn't be "why Kanye" it should be "why NOT Kanye." His past, his present state, and his future can ALL bring glory to God. If his fans can see his past and see his life change because of Christ, and follow his work through the future, then they too could possibly come to Christ. His platform is enormous, and he knows it.

Another thing we discussed was, "what makes these people think they are any better than Kanye?" We have ALL sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God. So no, no one is better than one another. This is why grace is so important. We cannot earn our salvation, we are reliant on Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. Christ didn't come for the "righteous." He came for those like the tax collectors he would eat with, for the lepers who were shunned from society, for the poor, the needy, and those willing to put their pride aside and admit they need a savior- for people like Kayne. I know it is hard for non believers to understand, but God can transform anyone's heart. Let's not judge Kayne by thinking he is undeserving for God to chose him. What makes us more qualified to be chosen? Instead lets praise the Lord for this unreal opportunity for millions of people to hear the Gospel, possibly for the first time in their lives.

I hope someday we can change the saying to "I love you more than Kanye loves Jesus."

:)
